From Puget Sound. — Tho stoamor Isabel arrived here at 3 o'clock yestorday afternoon from Port Townsend with tho overland mails, a small quantity of froight and the following passengers :—Mrs. Fox, Messrs. Spencer, Martin, Bull, Gardiner and several others.

By yesterday's steamer Chief Engineer I Phillips received from the Earl and Countess of DutTerin large-sized portraits of their Excellencies. As works of art tho j portraits aro exceptionally good and faith- I ful and each bears the autograph of tho j illustrious personage depicted.

Ottawa, Feb. 10.—An inquest has been held on the remains of Honnessy, who was murdered at the Desert, Upper Ottawa, and a verdict of wilful murder against the man Birsoboia returned.

The petition against tho roturn of Mr. F. W. Glen for South Ontario in September, 1878, lias been set finally at rest, by a judgment of the Supreme Court in favor of the sitting member. Is is rumored that in consequence- of the Liberal party having decided to choose Mr. Blako h-.uler, Mr. Macken zie will resign his neat it! Parliament, and accept the Lt.'gistrarship of the County of Lambtou at a salary of four thousand dollars.

St. John, N. It, Feb. 10.— The total debt of St. John, N. B., according to the chamberlain's report, is $1,014,-588.14, an increase of $32,000 during the year. The indebtedness for schools ami for water ami sewerage is not included, however.

Guelpii, Feb. 11.--D. C. Kirkpat-rick, of Rothsay, was charged at tho Police Court here to-day with forging notes to the amount of" $10,000. Tho' prisoner having admitted that one of the notes was <t forgery was committee for trial. He was proprietor of an agricultural implement factory at Rothsay, and finding his affairs getting bo-hind left for the States. He was arrested at Bay City, Michigan, and brought here for trial.

St. John, N.B., Feb. 11.—Nearly one thousand boxes of frozen smelts were exported from St. John, N.B., to Boston yesterday.

Tho New Brunswick Government has advertised for tenders for tho erection of new legislative buildings at Fredericton.

Messrs. E. Lunt A- Sons secured a verdict in their favor against the Dominion Government for $45,720 in tho Supreme Court, Fredericton, N.B., yesterday.

Ottawa, Feb. 11.—It is understood that Hon. Mr. Royal, of Manitoba, will move, and Mr. McLeod, of Nova Scotia, will second the Address to the Throne.
